WEEKEND TWISTER

Apr 27, 07:55 PM

This past weekend, the first tornado of the season pounced on eastern Iowa at 4:52 in the afternoon. On the ground for nearly 20 minutes and 15 miles, the EF-1 twister caused quite a “stir” It was followed shortly after by another 20 minute EF-1 tornado that was on the ground for 6 miles. Fortunately, the storms were over rural areas and damage was small compared to what it could have been.

One of my weatherbuddies Travis Martensen and his son Nash are weatherheads and friends of the site. They missed the tornado but Travis forwarded some sweet pictures from a co-worker named Angie Armon who lives just outside Alburnett, Iowa (north of Cedar Rapids). In the first two shots you can see a well defined funnel and damage debris, and lastly you can see the storm rope out as it heads northeast. Those are great shots and we thank Angie for sharing them and for being brave enough to get them on the camera. Nice work!

Here is the NWS summary of the storm…
