One of the most remarkable events in Iowa weather history occurred April 8th and 9th of 1973. The blizzard of ’73 as I call it was a masterpiece in that it took a perfect set of parameters to produce such a severe snowstorm so late in the year. I was a junior in high school and I can remember it like yesterday. Here is an account of the storm from my book Superstorms, Extreme Weather in the Heart of the Heartland.
