March 2009-Mild and mighty moist...

Apr 13, 09:57 PM

The weather facts and figures are in for the month of March both locally as well as nationally. As always, some spots were much better off than others. We’ll start with the big picture first by checking out the monthly summary compiled by the National Climate Data Center.

Right here in our own backyards, March turned out to be warmer and significantly wetter than normal. The average temperature of 40.3 was 1.6 degrees above normal. The highest reading of the month was 76 on the 17th and the coldest was 11 on the 12th.

Rainfall was way above normal and snowfall pretty sparse. For the month, over 5” of rain tipped the bucket which was nearly twice the monthly average. All of March’s snow (3.2”) came in one storm at the tail end of the month. That total is about half of what typically falls.

There you have it, another March come and gone. Hope you enjoyed it.
